Reading well is not just a matter of being able to decode words on a page. Understanding what we read depends on what we already know. A child who has learned about the water cycle, the ancient world, or how plants grow will get far more from a text on those topics than one who has not.
This is why we have built our curriculum around the deliberate development of knowledge across all learning areas. Through our Core Knowledge Curriculum, students explore big ideas in science, history, geography, the arts and more. Each year builds on what came before, so that children arrive at each new topic with something to connect it to.
All students also participate in specialist programs in Physical Education, Italian, STEM, Visual Arts and Library, which bring breadth and richness to their learning across the school.
