We want every child at THPS to feel capable in mathematics. That means making sure the foundations are secure before we build on them.
In the same way that a child needs to know their letter sounds before they can read fluently, a child needs a solid understanding of numbers and how it works before they can approach complex problems with confidence. We invest significant time in building that understanding across the early and middle years of school, and we do not rush it.
Students who have a strong grasp of number, place value and the four operations are much better placed to tackle measurement, geometry, statistics and all the areas of mathematics they will encounter as they grow.
